The "Columbia NE" section is west of Fort Jackson between Elgin and Blythewood off of I-20 exit 80 at Clemson Road. Most of the popular neighborhoods in the Columbia NE are located on Clemson Road between I-20 and I-77. Clemson Road bisects the Northeast area and you can follow Clemson Road directly(with no turns) from I-20 to I-77. However, Killian Road, which was once a short road off of the I-77 exit, has been converged into Clemson Road and they are now continuous. So if you are on Killian Road you are basically on Clemson Road, but closer to I-77. About half way between the 2 interstate highways you will find Hardscrabble Road. This is also a main thoroughfare into some of the popular neighborhoods in the Columbia Northeast. Mainly, Lake Carolina and The Summit but if you continue up Hardscrabble Road you will run into the eastern side of Blythewood(at Kelly Mill Road...then Langford Road). The 29016 zip code distinguishes Blythewood, whereas 29229 consumes a a majority of new home neighborhoods in the Columbia Northeast.
Most of these neighborhoods broke ground in the mid 1990's and have multiplied ever since. The biggest change you will notice from neighborhood to neighborhood is the type of construction and the builder. Some neighborhoods are predominately brick and others will be vinyl sided homes. Within the past few years a fiber-board known as "Hardi-Plank" has emerged. This is said to be more durable than wood and of better quality than vinyl siding.
