Does FHA owe you money?
FHA owes me money!
As a 10+-year veteran in the Real Estate Sales and development, I run across all kinds of questions. For instance, I just went to visit my mother-in-law over the weekend and she asked me about a letter she had gotten in the mail. She showed me the letter, from a third-party company, which said FHA owed her money. With all of the paperwork that is involved with a closing, you can easily get sidetracked and forget that you have to follow up in the future. There are companies that research public records and want a piece of the pie to do your dirty work...and rightfully so. It is not illegal for companies to charge you to collect your money from agencies like FHA, but it is something that you can do on your own. If you decide to take advantage of one of these third-party companies you need to be aware of what is involved prior to hiring someone to deal with HUD and/or FHA on your behalf. As with any job, NEVER give someone money until their job is complete and ALWAYS investigate his or her business before giving out personal information. I always ask for a telephone number or street address of where I can reach them and a Tax-ID number. As with any business, there are predators that won't follow through with their obligations and others just to take advantage of you. Check this list to see if FHA owes you money(pop-up). Once you have found your information read this fact sheet(pop-up).
