Carolina Downhome Blues Festival | Camden SC
If you are a fan of the Blues and live music then Camdens Carolina Downhome Blues Festival has got you covered. Historic Camden, famously known for the Carolina Cup Steeplechase races in March, provides a great atmosphere for blues music. Many of Camden's historic homes and buildings have been preserved to maintain the charm of the south. Combine Camden's history with the blues and it will put you right back into the days when a 6-string guitar and harmonica filled the front porches of bungalow houses throughout the south.
The Midlands of Columbia, in which Camden sits, also has a few famous acts that truly capsulates time in a bottle. A Camden native, Rusty Davis, is scheduled to perform a live set or stop by Davis and Sons guitar shop, which is likely to have an impromptu jam session with an audience flowing out of the doors onto the streets.
Drink Small, known as the "Blues Doctor", is one of my favorite Folk/Blues guitarists. He is from Bishopville and has been supported by locals for decades. He has been inducted into the SC Hall of Fame and has played high profile festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz Festival and can usually be found in a small club, local festival, or college bar throughout the state.
This year's festival begins October 1st and will continue through October 3rd, 2009. The cost to enter the site is:
$10.00 Thursday Night
$15.00 Friday or Saturday Night
$35.00 Weekend (3-day)
