Forbes Ranks Columbia SC Highly
Forbes Ranks Columbia SC No. 12 for Affordability
Yes, you've heard the rumors and here is the proof. Forbes ranked Columbia SC Metro area as number 12 of the top 100 metro areas across the US for affordable places to live in their "Bang for the Buck" rankings. This ranking was based on several factors including home prices, real estate taxes, job growth, unemployment rates and foreclosure rates. This reinforces the 2009 market conditions in Columbia SC with the credibility of a well-respected publisher such as Forbes. Although Columbia has suffered some of the backlash of real estate conditions across the world, it remains in an elite class of prosperity for the Carolinas. Other cities in the South Carolina region include Augusta-Richmond at No.4, Greenville SC at No. 20, Charleston SC at No. 27, and Charlotte No. 56.
Many of the homes for sale in Columbia (and across the state) never surpassed the inflated values that other cities in the US experienced. There has been a large increase of foreclosures for sale and bank owned properties across the state, but not nearly the volume and density that other cities have suffered through. Columbia hasn't been traumatized by the lack of growth and ‘takers' for the hundreds of foreclosures our city sees every month. Other cities have had large communities with increasing home values that were apparently unable to sustain the shock when the real estate sales declined. It's been a rough ride... but there's nothing more promising than seeing unbiased statistics that gives South Carolina real estate agents a ‘pat on the back' for being part of an optimistic and ethical team.
